Edwin Charles "Charlie" Tappan (82) of Altamont

Edwin Charles ‘Charlie’ Tappan, 82, of Altamont IL passed away peacefully at Stonebridge Nursing and Rehab in Benton IL on Saturday March 30, 2024.

Charlie was born April 22,1941 to Edwin Cecil and Lola Faye Tappan in Vandalia IL. He married Catherine Cecelia ‘Cathy’ Murray at the St. James Cathedral in Mt Rainier MD on November 23, 1963, and they were blessed with 4 children.

Surviving are his two sons, Chris (Kellie) Tappan of Thompsonville IL and Tom (Jessica) Tappan of Altamont IL; nine grandchildren and six great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Dennis and sister Doris, his wife Cathy in 2021, daughter Jill in 2014, son Michael in 2020 and grandson Guy Louis in 2021.

Charlie was in the telephony field for 40 years from which he retired in 2018. His hobbies included collecting stamps, coins, insulators, and Indian artifacts. During his free time, he enjoyed watching birds, gardening and being outdoors fishing and morel mushroom hunting. Charlie was quite the conversationalist and will be missed around town by many.

Services are private and burial rites will be conducted, later, by family on the family farm where he will be joined by his loving wife of 58 years and his beloved son Michael.
