Daisy Mae Tolen (76) of Stewardson

Daisy Mae Tolen, a cherished matriarch and lifelong resident of Stewardson, Illinois, passed away peacefully on March 7, 2024, at the age of 76. 

Born on August 24, 1947, in Fancher, Illinois, she was the loving daughter of Claude and LaVonne (Polly) Ruff.  Daisy's journey began in the arms of a loving family, and she carried that love forward throughout her life.

Daisy was a graduate of Cowden-Herrick High School in the Class of 1965.  She retired from World Color Press in Effingham after 26 years of service.  Daisy's passions extended beyond the walls of her home. She found solace and joy in quilting, sewing, and tending to her flower garden.  Her hands, always busy creating or nurturing, were an extension of her generous spirit.  Yet, it was in her role as a grandmother and great-grandmother that Daisy found her greatest love and fulfillment.  Each family gathering was brightened by her presence, and her legacy of love will flourish in the lives of those she cherished.

Daisy's heart found its truest joy in the bonds of family.  She was blessed with five children: Lee Anne Pauley of Pana, Laura Pieper of Pana, Steve Tolen of Stewardson, Michelle Swindell of Stewardson, and Stacy Tolen of Stewardson.  Her children were her pride and joy, and they survive her, continuing her legacy of kindness and strength.  The family grew with the addition of 19 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren, who will remember her for her warmth, wisdom, and the gentle way she guided them through life's many turns.  She was a beloved sister to Donna Switzer of Port Orchard, WA, Mary Connor of Stewardson, Lloyd Ruff, and Danny Ruff of Fancher, and Elmer Ruff of Shelbyville and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters, Claudette, Helen, and Ann, one grandson, Casey Musson and two great-granddaughters.

Visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 12, 2024, at Brummerstedt Funeral Home in Stewardson.  A private family burial will take place in Stewardson Cemetery.  Memorials in Daisy’s honor may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.  Brummerstedt Funeral Home in Stewardson is assisting the family.
