Stephen Edward "Steve" Hoelscher 69, of Neoga, Illinois, passed away at 12:35 p.m. Friday March 1, 2024 in HSHS St. John's Hospital in Springfield, Illinois.

He was born February 21, 1955 in Effingham, Illinois the son of Lawrence J. "Larry" and Mildred A. (Hagen) Hoelscher. He married Teri Mayhall September 6, 1975 in Neoga, Illinois. Steve worked as an industrial engineer for Fedders USA. Steve was a member, Deacon and Elder of the United Presbyterian Church in Neoga, Illinois, served on the Neoga Park District as a board member, a coach and softball/baseball commissioner, a member of the Neoga Chiefs board of directors, a member of Illinois Basketball Coaches Association Hall of Fame, was a Neoga High School score board operator for forty three years and "Papa" to so many kids in Neoga.

Mr. Hoelscher is survived by his wife, Teri Hoelscher of Neoga, Illinois; daughters, Stephanie Finney (Shawn) of Neoga, Illinois, Jennifer Mast (Clarence) of Neoga, Illinois and Erica Ozier (Chris) of Sullivan, Illinois; grandchildren, Zackary, Christian and Gavin Ozier, Addison and Harper Mast, Jack and Jude Finney; Siblings, Stan Hoelscher (Pam) of Mattoon, Illinois, Shirley Ballinger (Bill) of Mattoon, Illinois, Susie Monroe of Neoga, Illinois and Sara Stepp of Neoga, Illinois; special family friend, Eileen Doedtman of Effingham, Illinois; mother in law, Marilyn Mayhall of Neoga, Illinois.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Alex Lee Hoelscher; sister, Sharon Hampton; father in law, Jim Mayhall.

Steve enjoyed working out in his yard, attending all of his grandkids sporting and school events, and camping with Teri, the love of his life of almost 55 years. Memorials are suggested to the family C/O Teri Hoelscher 227 w. 10th St. Neoga, IL 62447, to be used for a Neoga Scholarship fund in Steve’s honor.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday March 7, 2024 in the United Presbyterian Church in Neoga, Illinois. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 6, 2024 in Neoga High School Gym in Neoga, Illinois.
