Barry Gene Evans, 61, of Shelbyville, IL, passed away at 7:51 p.m. Saturday, February 10, 2024 in HSHS Good Shepherd Hospital, Shelbyville, IL.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 17, 2024 at Howe & Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville, IL, with Rev. Greg Breeden officiating. Visitation will be from 5:00-8:00 p.m. Friday, February 16, 2024 at the funeral home. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery, Shelbyville, IL. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the General Dacey Trail, Shelbyville Boosters Foundation, or Saving Orphaned Animals.
Barry was born on October 28, 1962 in Pana, IL, the son of Harold H. and Lois Aileen (West) Evans. He grew up in Shelbyville, where he delivered the Herald and Review Newspaper, mowed yards, and worked on bikes at Finch’s Toy Center. He graduated from Shelbyville High School in the Class of 1980 and attended Lake Land College. Barry was a talented carpenter with Eric Kull Construction in Shelbyville for over 40 years. Barry could also be found stocking shelves at Wal-Mart, where he enjoyed visiting with customers and co-workers. When he wasn’t working, Barry enjoyed attending auctions and garage sales with his friend, Jeff Gregg, and collecting Blues Brothers memorabilia. Barry was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene and recently attended Fourth Street United Methodist Church both in Shelbyville. He served as President of the Thursday Morning Breakfast Club at the American Legion in Shelbyville and was a lifelong fan of the Chicago Cubs, Chicago Bears, Fighting Illini and Shelbyville Rams. Barry will be remembered for his love of people of all ages, his care and concern for animals, and his kind heart.
Barry is survived by his sister, Becky A. Evans of Shelbyville, IL; second mom, Roma Baird of Shelbyville, IL; and several cousins.
