Joseph Gerard Zuber, age 71, of rural Newton, Illinois, passed away at 10:50 AM – Saturday, February 10, 2024, at his home.
Funeral liturgy outside of the Mass will be celebrated at 11:30 AM – Saturday, February 17, 2024, at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church in Ste. Marie, Illinois. Visitation will be held 10:00AM to 11:00 AM, prior to the funeral service, at the church. The burial will be in the St. Mary’s Cemetery in Sainte Marie, Illinois. In loving memory of Joe, memorials may be made to St. Mary’s Church for Masses. Arrangements are under the care of the Meyer Funeral Home in Newton, Illinois. Joseph Gerard “Joe” Zuber was born on May 30, 1952, in Newton, Illinois, the son of Frank J. and Margaret C. (Eckl) Zuber. He was a member of Saint Mary the Assumption Catholic Church in Sainte Marie, Illinois. He graduated from Newton Community High School with the Class of 1970.
Joe grew up on the family farm, helping his dad, where he enjoyed farming with his dad. He was an accomplished cabinet maker, a trait that was also his hobby. Throughout his life he made many toys and household items for his family and friends using his woodworking skills. In retirement he enjoyed traveling throughout the area to garage sales.
Joe is survived by-
Siblings – Bernard “Shorty” (Brenda) Zuber of Willow Hill, Illinois; Gertrude Murphy of Newton, Illinois; and Carolyn (Fred) Bugle of Westfield, Illinois
Brother-in-law – Dan Bangert
Sister-in-law- Carolyn Zuber
Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Mary (Paul) Kessler and Theresa Bangert, brother Lawrence Zuber, infant sister Florence Elizabeth and infant brother Robert Joseph, and a brother-in-law Ralph Murphy.
