Roy S. Eggers, 83, of Greenup passed away at 4:26 am on Wednesday February 7, 2024, at the Willow Breeze Hospice House in Mattoon with his loving wife and sons at his bedside.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm on Friday February 9, 2024, at the Barkley Funeral Chapel in Greenup. Visitation will be from 12:00 noon until service time on Friday February 9, 2024, also at the funeral chapel. Burial will be in the Friends Grove Cemetery with Military Rites by the Cumberland County Veterans.

Roy was born on September 27, 1940, in Toledo, IL. to William M. and Bertha E. (Butler) Eggers.

Survivors include his wife, Deanna Graham; sons Aaron D. (Phyllis) Eggers and William A. (Dena) Eggers; step children Billy (Sandi) Gilbert, Alicia (Richard) Freeman, Brenda Thompson; grandchildren Christopher (Heather) Eggers, Amanda Goudie, Lacey (Ryan) Thoele, and Hannah Eggers (Kris); step grandchildren L.J. Freeman (Sam), Tim Freeman, Daniel Jones, Ashley (Rex) Whetsell, and Adam (Taylor) Gilbert; six great grandchildren; sisters Sharon Oakley and Evelyn (Dwight) Howard; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Norma, Bev, Miriam, Lois and infant sister Iva; and brothers Jack, Bob and Wayne Eggers.

Roy proudly served in the Army from 1957-1964. He worked for Yellow Freight as a truck driver for many years. He loved farming the family farm and custom farming rental grounds with friend Dick Murray. Roy’s hobbies included keeping his lawn freshly manicured and growing his tomatoes, making them into salsa and tomato juice. Roy was very much about love of family and family celebrations. He was very grateful. He was also a member of the American Legion Post #764 in Toledo.
