Janice Elaine McGee, 80, of Ramsey, Illinois, went to be with our Lord Jesus Christ on January 30, 2024 at HSHS St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital in Effingham.

She is the daughter of Walter and Gladys (Belt) Turner of Louisville, Illinois, and was the youngest of six children born into the family. She married Garland Eugene McGee on August 24, 1960. Janice was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.

She leaves behind daughter Judy of Ramsey and son Jeff (wife Becky) of Effingham, and Paul (deceased), she is also survived by a brother: Kenneth Turner of Effingham. Grandchildren include Stephanie (A.J.) Jackson, and Chelsie (Kenny) Koenig. Great grandchildren include: Cordelia Jackson, Keagyn, Kamden, and Kalynn Koenig.

She was also preceded in death by 3 siblings: Wilma Jean McGee, Walter Turner, Jr., and Richard Turner.

Janice was a strong and blessed woman. She played the piano for Old Union Church of Christ and Red Brush Christian Church in Louisville, Illinois, as well as the Christian Church in Coldspring, Texas. She also played the piano and organ at Ramsey Christian Church and most recently Woburn Church of Christ. Janice also taught Sunday School to many children throughout her life. Janie was a graduate of Sam Houston State University in Huntsvillle, Texas, with both her bachelors and master’s degrees in education. She had been a legal office supervisor in Houston, Texas, and taught school in both Illinois and Texas. Most recently she worked with the developmentally disabled and was also an excellent seamstress. She also loved her pet dogs. She was loved by many.

Graveside services to celebrate Janice’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 3, 2024, at the Old Union Cemetery in rural Louisville, with Charles McGee officiating, and burial will follow. Anyone attending the service is asked to meet directly at the cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Janice’s memory to the Old Union Church of Christ.
