Barbara Swofford (81) of Vandalia

Barbara Swofford, 81, of Vandalia, formerly of Brownstown, died at 5:25 p.m. Wednesday, January 24, 2024 at SBL Fayette County Hospital-Long Term Care, Vandalia.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, January 27, 2024 at McInturff Cemetery, Hagarstown, IL with Rev. Olen Evans officiating. Memorials may be made to the Fayette County Hospice or SBL Fayette County Hospital-Long Term Care. Gieseking Funeral Home, Brownstown is assisting the family with arrangements.

Barbara A. Swofford was born on September 23, 1942 in Vandalia, IL to Benjamin and Ilene Miller. She married Everett L. Swofford on September 17, 1960 and he preceded her in death on April 3, 2015. She was a member of the First Baptist Church, Brownstown and was a homemaker and had worked at the Brownstown Hardware Store.

She is survived by: her sons, Mark (Bev) Swofford of Fairhope, AL and Mike (Russ) Swofford of Imperial, MO; daughter, Beverly Merriman of Vandalia; 2 grandchildren, Eric and Kelly Swofford.

Barbara was preceded in death by: her parents, husband and son-in-law, Dennis Merriman.
