Bonnie Jean Watkins (76) of Dieterich

Bonnie Jean Watkins, age 76, of Dieterich, Illinois, passed away at 3:00 PM – Thursday, January 18, 2024, at HSHS St Anthony’s Memorial Hospital in Effingham, Illinois.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 PM – Tuesday, January 23, 2024, at the Meyer Funeral Home in Dieterich, Illinois.  The burial will be in the Woodlawn Cemetery in Effingham, Illinois.  Visitation will be held from 11:00 AM until service time.

Bonnie was born on November 15, 1947, in Effingham, Illinois, the youngest child of Kermit and Berniece (Devore) Lawrence.  She graduated from Beecher City High School with the Class of 1965.

Bonnie worked for several years at World Color Press, and while working there she married Gary Steele, and they became the parents of a daughter Megan Steele.  In 1997, Bonnie married Steve Watkins of Noble and became a full-time homemaker.  They built a home in Dieterich and enjoyed 26 happy years together.

Bonnie enjoyed reading and doing puzzles.

Husband of 26 years – Steve Watkins of Dieterich, Illinois

Daughter – Megan Steele of Noble, Illinois

6 Grandchildren

Brother – Wayne (Linda) Lawrence of Water Valley, Kentucky

Sister – Janet (James) Donaldson of Altamont, Illinois

Bonnie was preceded in death by her parents, brothers James Lawrence and Walter Lawrence and sisters-in-law Karen Rennels and Brenda Watkins.
