Arnold L. Brakefield, 72, passed away Monday, January 15, 2024 at his home in Watson.
Graveside services for Arnold and his wife, Jana, will be held at 10:00 am Thursday, February 1, 2024 at the Watson Cemetery with military rites. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to any local animal organization. Arrangements are in the care of Bauer Funeral Home in Effingham.
Arnold was born September 8, 1951 in Jasper, Alabama, the son of Arnold T. and Jimmie L. (Williams) Brakefield. He married Jana L. Beaumont on August 11, 1979 and she preceded him in death on August 18, 2019.
Arnold served in the US Marine Corp. where he served in the Vietnam War. As a true marine, he lived by “Once a Marine, Always a Marine”.
He and Jana were over-the-road team truck drivers surpassing 4 million miles together. Arnold continued to drive locally for KAG here in Effingham. Arnold and Jana loved animals and over the years, opened their home to many dogs.
Arnold is survived by his two beloved dogs, Betty and Wilma; brothers-in-law, Greg Beaumont & family of Greenville and Dana Beaumont & family of Shelbyville; sister-in-law, Tama Hillman and family of Tampa, FL; his friends who turned into family, Janie (Mike) Wallace and their children, Kaleb, Kyleigh, and Daxton; Susan (Bill) Leasher, and their daughter, Liz.
