Samuel M. "Sam" Sheehan 81, of Shumway, Illinois, passed away Tuesday January 16, 2024 in his residence.

He was born December 3, 1942 in Shelby County, Illinois the son of Clem Edward and Mary V. (Hunk) Sheehan. Sam married Catherine A.Kunz February 26, 1977 in Decatur, Illinois. She passed away December 30, 1979. He then married Mary L. Kaufman June 22, 1985 in Sigel, Illinois. She passed away June 4, 2002. Sam then married Mardell Bloemer Flack August 6, 2004 in Shumway and she survives. Mr. Sheehan was a retired dock worker for Yellow Freight. He was a member of St. Mary Of The Annunciation Church in Shumway, Illinois, the Teutopolis American Legion and the Neoga Train Club. Sam enjoyed Model Trains and loved vintage cars and going to car shows. He also was an avid reader, loved history especially the Civil War and traveling. Mr. Sheehan was proud to serve his country in Germany and was proud of his trip on "The Honor Flight".

Sam is survived by his wife, Mardell Sheehan of Shumway, Illinois; children, Joe Stodden (Linda) of Sigel, Illinois, Warren Stodden of Memphis, Tennessee, Stan Stodden (Tonya) of Mason, Tennessee, Todd Flack (Cori) of Roanoke, Illinois, Tammy Wheeler (Randy) of Cisne, Illinois, Mary Flack (Robin) of Altamont, Illinois, Mark Flack (Joni) of Altamont, Illinois, Matthew Flack (Amanda) of Fort Gordon in Georgia; Twenty three grandchildren; four great grandchildren; brothers, Paul Sheehan of Effingham, Illinois and Jim Sheehan (Patty) of Danville, Illinois; sister in laws, Pat Sheehan of Mattoon, Illinois, Louise Sheehan of Teutopolis, Illinois and Carol Sheehan of Teutopolis, Illinois; also his constant companion and good friend, his dog Emma.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Anthony Sheehan, John Sheehan, and William Sheehan; sister in laws, Barbara Sheehan and Lucille Sheehan.

Funeral Services will be held at 12:30 PM Thursday, January 25, 2024 in the St. Mary Of The Annunciation Church in Shumway, Illinois. Visitation will be Thursday January 25, 2024 from 9:00 AM until 11:00 AM also in the church. Burial will be in the St. Patrick Cemetery in Trowbridge, Illinois with Military Honors by th Teutopolis American Legion. Memorials are suggested to the Land of Lincoln Honor Flight in Springfield, Illinois or HSHS Home Care in Effingham, Illinois.
