Anthony Kim Edgar was born October 5, 1954, in Shelbyville, IL, the son of Lyle C. and the late Betty E. (Reed) Edgar. While his father was a butcher at various A&P stores in Central Illinois, he lived in Shelbyville, Litchfield, and Effingham before moving to Vandalia during Junior High School. He was a proud member of the Vandalia Community High School Class of 1972, and maintained many life-long friendships from those days. He married Paula J. Filer on September 13, 1975, at Mother of Dolors in Vandalia and was blessed with 48 years of marriage. He was baptized at age 54 and received into full Communion in the Catholic Church on April 11, 2009, by Fr. Delix Michel, S.S.L., at Mother of Dolors and quickly became a very active member of the parish. He worked at John Crane, Inc., in Vandalia for over 40 years and formed many friendships there. In his earlier years, he enjoyed hiking and camping trips, golfing, and fast-pitch softball. His quick-witted sense of humor, and no-nonsense manner of saying what was on his mind, were unique God-given gifts that served him well as a Catholic who was always ready to speak-up for the unchanging truth of the Gospel.

He is survived by his wife; son, Fr. Zachary Edgar; daughter, Hannah Edgar; father, Lyle Edgar; brothers Kevin (Connie) and Kelly (Teresa) Edgar; sisters-in-law Teresa Filer (Max Roler) and Jane Filer; three nieces and two nephews.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Betty, on January 14, 2019; his in-laws, Miles & Erma (Bodlovich) Filer; and brothers-in-law, Paul G. Filer and John M. Filer.
