Joan Sebright (85) of Altamont

Joan Sebright, 85, of Altamont, died at 3:13 a.m. Sunday, January 7, 2024 at Lehigh Acres Regional Medical Center, Lehigh Acres, Florida.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, January 18, 2024 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, St. Elmo with Rev. Ron Lorilla officiating. Burial will follow at 2:30 p.m. at Lawrenceville City Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. on Thursday at the church. Memorials may be made in the form masses or to the donor’s choice. Gieseking Funeral Home, Altamont is assisting the family with arrangements.

Joan Caroline Sebright was born on Saturday, January 8, 1938 in Effingham, IL to Ray and Josephine (Bueker) Nuxoll. She married David Lee Sebright on July 4, 1959 at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, Effingham and he preceded her in death on February 17, 2020. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in St. Elmo. She attended school at St. Anthony Grade School, graduated from St. Anthony High School in 1955, graduated from Eastern Illinois University in 1959 and attended Southern Illinois University and the University of Guam. She was a teacher in St. Elmo in 1959 and began teaching first grade at the Altamont Grade School in 1970 and retired in 1994. She then taught second grade from 1995-2000 on the island of Guam. She enjoyed being a wife and mother, teaching children and traveling. She traveled with her husband Dave to most of the Midwest, central, eastern and western states, and Hawaii, Bali, Palou, Pohnpei, Marshall Island, Philippines, Korea, Thailand, Cambodia (Angkor Wat), Myanmar, Japan, Taiwan, Guam and Mexico.

She is survived by; her children, Joan (Phil) Milleville, Caroline (Robert) Jakubowski, and Daniel Cecil Sebright; 7 grandchildren, Joe, Josh, and Ashley Sebright, Ann Lane, Aaron, Mark and Thomas Milleville; 10 great grandchildren; brothers, Ray Nuxoll of Aurora, Fred Nuxoll of Beecher City, William Nuxoll of Effingham and Roger Nuxoll of Beecher City.

She was preceded in death by; her husband, parents and children, David Lee Sebright Jr. and David Ray Sebright; brother, Frank Nuxoll.
