On December 23, 2023, Velna Laverne “Peggy” (Towels) Eident exchanged this world of flesh and breath, for life eternal.

Peggy, as she was known by family and friends, was the daughter of Lester and Zora Fern (Moreland) Towels of the rural Mason/Edgewood community. She was born at the family home in rural Mason on December 18, 1929. She married Charles “Chuck” Eident on November 8, 1947, who preceded her in death on September 6, 2014. Their union was blessed with six children. They are: sons, Richard Eident (Joy) of Mattoon, Lawrence Eugene Eident, deceased; Jerry Eident (Jeannie) of rural Mason; daughters, Helen Weaver (David) of rural Altamont, Janet Byrd (Ray) of Marion, North Carolina, Barbara Brazle (Virgil) of Albingdon, Maryland. Peggy was also survived by 15 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, and 2 great great-grandchildren.

Peggy was a devoted wife and loving mother. Peg and Chuck accepted Jesus and were baptized into the family eternal in 1954. She was a long-time member of Mason Christian Church, and in later years united with Cornerstone Christian Church in Effingham. Faith and family were the motivating force and work of her life. She was known by all who met her as a “sweet, no-nonsense lady”, who through her pleasant personality, gentle humor, and kind acceptance, made friends wherever life took her. Though her passing from this life is deeply mourned, her entrance into the Heavenly realm is joyously celebrated by family and friends.

Peggy was preceded in death by her husband, Charles; infant son, Lawrence; parents, Lester and Fern Towels; brothers, Darrell, Clifford, and Glen; sisters, Wyvonne Winters and Lois Sporleder.
