Therese Elizabeth Bruemmer, age 94, of Newton, Illinois, passed away at 2:00 A.M. - Tuesday, December 19, 2023, at Helia Health Care in Newton, Illinois.
Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11:30 AM – Saturday, December 23, 2023, at Saint Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Newton, Illinois, with Father Pawel Luczak, celebrating Mass. The burial will be in the Old Saint Peter Cemetery, northeast of Newton, Illinois. Visitation will be from 9:30 to 11:00 AM – on Saturday, December 23, 2023, at the church. In loving memory of Therese, memorials may be made to Saint Thomas School. Arrangements are under the care of the Meyer Funeral Home in Newton, Illinois. Therese was born on February 18, 1929, on the Schackmann family farm, northeast of Newton, Illinois, the daughter of Edward and Mary (Miller) Schackmann. She married Joseph Bernard Bruemmer on November 22, 1950, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Andale, Kansas. They moved to Jasper County in 1957 where they farmed for many years. Joe preceded her in death on September 14, 2006. Therese was a homemaker and loving wife, mother grandmother, and great grandmother. She was a member of Saint Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church where she was active with the Altar Society. Therese enjoyed working in her yard, gardening, and sewing.
Therese is survived by: Daughter- Elaine Michl of Newton, Illinois Granddaughters - Leeann (Corey) Hahn of Indianapolis, Indiana; Jackie (Austin) Angel of Indianapolis, Indiana, and Jamie Michl (Brandon Martin) of Ashland, Illinois Great Grandchildren- Grant Hahn and Blakely Martin Brother- Gene (Madonna) Schackmann
Therese was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter Connie Bruemmer who passed in 1977, siblings, Clarence Schackmann, Ralph Schackmann, Herman Schackmann, Joseph Schackmann, Charlene “Sis” Gribben, Paul Schackmann, Margaret Hollis, Rita Rasmussen, Frank Schackmann, and Donald Schackmann.
