Melba was born on October 29, 1924, in Watson, IL, the daughter of W. Arthur and Lora Rice. She married Curt Henderson in Rockville, IN, in 1942. He preceded her in death on June 10, 2006. Melba’s greatest attribute was her love for the Lord and she desired for her family and friends to know and love Jesus. When she was able, Melba was an active member of Watson Methodist Church, Watson. After learning to use the computer, at the age of 78, she began her ministry of making and sending cards to others for their birthday, an illness, or for encouragement. She had a talent for remembering the name of people she met. Once she knew you, then you became her friend and were added to her daily list of prayer. In the past, Melba volunteered with the St. Anthony Hospital Auxiliary and also taught the Red Cross class at the hospital.

Melba is survived by her son, James (Jodi) Henderson of Edwardsville; daughters, Cheryl (Rev. James) Slone of Marion and Marva Petrus of Belleville; 7 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Curt; and son-in-law, Tedd Petrus.
