Doris Mae Mansfield, 97, of Effingham, IL, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, November 21, 2023, at 5:51 a.m. at her home in Effingham, IL.

Doris was born on July 10, 1926, in Reddick, IL, the daughter of Oscar and Ella (Rieke) Kilgos. She married Maurice Mansfield on May 12, 1951 in Kankakee, IL. Maurice preceded her in death on November 22, 2007. Doris graduated from Kankakee High School and joined the United States Nurse Corps during World War II. She was a registered nurse and worked as a supervisor nurse in the OB Department at Presbyterian St. Luke’s Hospital, which is now Rush Medical Center, in Chicago. She was also a past president of St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and District Representative for 2 years. She owned and operated the Country Gourmet Shoppe. Doris and her husband Maurie Mansfield were owners of B. Mansfield & Co. and Mansfield U-Stor-It in Effingham. Doris was a member of the Watson Methodist Church in Watson, IL. Doris enjoyed gourmet cooking and was very talented in hosting and planning parties at their home. She was a seamstress who tailored her own clothes for several decades. Plants were a passion of hers. She had several varieties of plants in her solarium that she took care of all year round. You could find her with her cat Samantha in her solarium enjoying a cup of coffee and the sound of her fountain on a sunny afternoon.

Doris is survived by her children, daughter Christine (deceased) (Gary) Quinley and their children, Tammy Kim and Matt Quinley; son, Michael (Rosemary) Mansfield of Woodville, WI and Michael’s children, Patrick (Anne) Mansfield, Stephen McNaughton, and Justine Feller; daughter, Elyece “Lisa” (Hal) Paholke of Effingham and their children, Heather (Jason) Zimmerman, Johnathon Paholke, and Ryan Paholke; 20 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and their families. Doris was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Maurie; daughter, Christine; grandson, Jeremiah; brother, Richard Kilgos; and beloved friend, Blanche Ready.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, December 1, 2023 at Watson United Methodist Church in Watson. Burial will be in Arborcrest Memorial Park in Effingham. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 30, 2023 at Johnson Funeral Home in Effingham.
