Joan Banning (94) of Shelbyville

Joan Banning, 94, of Shelbyville, IL, passed away at 3:05 a.m. Monday, November 20, 2023 at Shelbyville Manor, Shelbyville, IL.
Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, November 28, 2023 at Howe & Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville, IL, with Rev. Greg Breeden officiating. Visitation will be from 9:30 – 11:30 a.m. Tuesday in the funeral home. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery, Shelbyville, IL. Memorials may be given to the Shelby County Senior Center.
Joan was born on May 15, 1929 in Lakewood, IL, the daughter of Granville and Maurine (Smith) Hodson. She graduated from Cowden High School. Joan married Eldon Dean Banning on July 23, 1949 in Cowden, IL, and he preceded her in death on May 9, 2013. Joan and Eldon worked tirelessly in their retirement to convert her overgrown, childhood home place into an idyllic country retreat they dubbed Hodson Hills. Joan loved her large family and enjoyed birdwatching, gardening, sewing, and baking. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Shelbyville.
She is survived by her children: Kathie Storm of Lakewood, IL, Dianne (Mike) Shallenberger, Doug (Kristi) Banning and Tina (Louie) Donnel all of Shelbyville, IL; sisters, Emma Nelle Bates of Shelbyville, IL, and Doris Soldner of Effingham, IL; 11 grandchildren, Lia Koehler (Kris), Evan Russell (Rebecca), Doug Storm (Sarah), Ian Storm (Jill), Josh Shallenberger (Shannon), Kristen Runyon (Stephen), Jennifer Heckler (Matt), Kelli Cothern (Wes), Amy Stockdale (Brad), Erin Chambers, and Cory Donnel; 32 great grandchildren, Charlie Russell, Jordan and Christian Sieger, Adam and Peter Storm, Elliot, Oliver and Jasper Storm, Kiley Jo Shallenberger, Samantha Westrich (Ben), Shelby Hendrix, Ella and Luke Perona, Gunner Runyon, Grace, Lucas, and Natalie Heckler, Carter, Ava, and Noah Cothern, Peighton Lawrence (Jared), Kentrell and Kolten Beck, Isaac, Meredith and Kara Chambers, Owen and Lou Donnel, and Jaden, Gavin, Cooper and Cannon Stockdale.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Eldon; son-in-law, Neil Storm; brother, Robert Hodson; and sisters, Kathaleen Licklider and Ruth Elliot.
