Harold Fisher (86) of Brownstown

Harold Lee Fisher 86, of Brownstown, IL passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, November 19, 2023 surrounded by his family.
Harold was born on Tuesday, December 1,1936 in Brownstown, Illinois. He was the son of Charles and Gladys (Thompson) Fisher. He married Joyce Elaine Fairchild on February 17, 1963 in St. Elmo, IL and they were married for 58 years until her passing on May 1, 2021. Together they had four children, Clayton Fisher, Dr. Lisa Smith, Lori Mueller and Eric Fisher. Harold served proudly in the United States Marine Corps as a Sergeant between the Korean War and Vietnam War. He received the National Defense Service Medal and Good Conduct Medal during his service. He then returned home and worked for Humble Oil, Ralston Purina and then finished his years with the Illinois Department of Transportation in Vandalia before retiring as Highway Maintenance Lead Worker. Harold served on several community boards including Brownstown School Board, where he was President for a number of years, Otega Township Board and Pilcher Cemetery Board. He had several hobbies including stock car racing, where he won many races on multiple tracks, bowling along with his wife Joyce, and his very favorite one, horseback riding with more friends than could be counted. He was well known in the area for hosting annual Fall horse rides on his property, bringing in horse riders from surrounding areas. He also spent many Sundays horseback riding with friends and going on many trips to Shawnee doing what he loved.
He is survived by his son Clayton (Becky) Fisher of Bellville, IL, Dr. Lisa (Mike) Smith of Blue Mound, IL, Lori (Ted) Mueller of Brownstown, IL and Eric (Elisabeth) Fisher of Lisle, IL. Brother Paul (Dee) Fisher of Brownstown, Sisters; Virgina Wilber of Brownstown and Ruth Ann VanZee of New Sharon, IA and Sister-In-Law Dorothy Davis of Olathe, KS, 19 Grandchildren and 13 Great-Grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife Joyce; parents, Charles and Gladys Fisher; Brothers Carl Fisher and Jerry Fisher and his wife Georgia; Sister Alice Thompson and her husband John; Mother and Father-In-Law William and Zelma Fairchild; Brother-in-Law Ralph Fairchild and Dale Fairchild.
Visitation will be held at Gieseking Funeral Home in Brownstown, IL on Sunday, Nov 26th from 1-3 with funeral services immediately following at the Funeral Home. Burial following at Pilcher Cemetery, Brownstown with military rites by Brownstown V.F.W. Post #9770 and Vandalia American Legion Post #95.
