Patricia Marie Fischer, age 90, of Champaign, Illinois, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 10, 2023, at Carle Foundation Hospital.
She was born on November 2, 1933, in Wabash County, the cherished daughter of Ira and Elsie (Doty) Fischer. She was the last living child of their union. A member of the Church of Christ, Patricia attended the Philo Road Church of Christ in Urbana during her time in Champaign, whenever she was physically able to do so. She was also a former member of the Wabash County Home Extension, where she found joy in crafts and shared her passion for genealogy with her family. Patricia will be fondly remembered for her compassionate nature, her unwavering willingness to care for others, and her delightful sense of humor. Her caring spirit extended beyond her immediate family, as she played a vital role in overseeing the care of two paternal aunts, Carrie, and Ada Fischer. Additionally, Patricia assisted in the care of her sister Jean's daughters when they welcomed twins into their family. She also enjoyed babysitting nieces and nephews when an opportunity arose. Patricia returned to Mount Carmel to care for her mother, who had suffered a stroke and remained there, ensuring her mother could live independently as long as possible. In her final years, Patricia shared a home with Don and Jean Greeson.
She was preceded in death by her loving parents, Ira and Elsie Fischer, and her siblings Ovela Voncile Hering, Jeanette Odom, Freda Marks, Jean Greeson, and Gerald Fischer.
Survivors include her brother-in-law Donald Greeson and numerous nieces and nephews.
A graveside service to celebrate Patricia's life will be at 11:30 am on Friday, November 17, 2023, in the Greenup Cemetery. The Barkley Funeral Chapel in Greenup is assisting the family. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to a Church of Christ or Dementia research/support in Patricia's name. More importantly, please consider donating a small portion of your time to individuals without a family support system. (Offer to babysit for someone, go to a nursing home and learn about someone you never met before who never receives visitors, introduce yourself to your neighbors. Life is short and we are surrounded by lonely people.) May her kind and loving spirit live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
