Shirley M. Angel (87) of Effingham

Shirley M. Angel, 87, of Effingham, IL, passed away on Saturday, November 11, 2023 at Lakeland Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Effingham.

Private services will be held at Johnson Funeral Home in Effingham. Burial will be in Oak Ridge Cemetery in Effingham. Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Online condolences may be shared by clicking here.

Shirley was born November 30, 1935, in Effingham IL, the daughter of Benjamin and Jessie (Hampton) Angel. After graduating high school, Shirley started her career with Ma Bell as an operator for the phone company. She eventually retired from Bell South in Atlanta, GA, as manager after 28 years. After retirement, Shirley found joy through volunteering, especially with Head Start and in the gift shop at St. Anthony Memorial Hospital. She also enjoyed her flowers, gardening, and watching tennis and Duke basketball. She absolutely loved to travel. Most importantly, Shirley was a devoted mother and grandmother who was beloved by her family. Her Boston Terrier Max also had a special place in her heart.

Shirley is survived by her children, Greg Brummerstedt, Judy Brummerstedt, Stacia Brummerstedt, and Angela Brummerstedt all of Effingham; and grandchildren, Michael and Kennedy Brummerstedt.

She was preceded in death by her parents.
