Terry D. Hicks, 80, of Alma, Illinois passed away at 1:14 pm, Tuesday, November 7, 2023 at the Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri with his loving family by his side.

Terry was born on November 2, 1943, in Salem, Illinois the son of Delbert D. and Helen Louise (Williams) Hicks. Terry graduated from Kinmundy Alma High School in 1961. Following his graduation, he proudly served in the US Navy during the Vietnam era, demonstrating his deep patriotism and unwavering commitment to his country. Terry married Iva Spencer on December 17, 1966 at the Salem Presbyterian Church and they shared nearly 57 years of marriage. Terry joined the Plumbers and Pipefitters Local 653 out of Centralia. His dedication and hard work were evident in his professional life, and he was respected by his colleagues for his integrity and commitment to the trade. Outside of his professional life, Terry had a deep love for farming and nature, which led him to own and operate the Shenandoah Tree Farm in Alma for many years. His passion for farming was palpable to anyone who visited the farm, and his dedication to nurturing the land was a testament to his hardworking and caring nature. His hobbies were as diverse as they were numerous, reflecting his curious spirit and his love for life. Terry was a devout member of the Alma Christian Church, where he served as a Deacon. His faith was a cornerstone of his life, and he was known for his kindness, generosity, and steadfast commitment to his faith community. His love for his church was matched only by his love for his family and friends, who remember him as a source of unwavering support and love.

Terry is survived by his wife: Iva Hicks of Alma; 3 daughters: Mary Jan (Scott) Bonner of Edgewood, Tera (Josh) Ratermann of Pace, Florida, Janna (Jeffery) Smith of Kinmundy; 10 grandchildren: Tyler Heinzmann, Kyle Heinzmann, Allison Cain, Cody Heinzmann, Quinton Bonner, Gavin Ratermann, Josi Ratermann, Destiny Smith, Corey Allen Smith, Riley Smith; 5 great grandchildren. He is also survived by a sister: Nancy Smith of Lexington, Kentucky.

Terry was preceded in death by his parents; and a daughter: Julie Hicks.

Funeral services to celebrate Terry’s life will be held at 1:00 pm Friday, November 10, 2023 at the Alma Christian Church with Randy VanAusdall officiating. Following the service military honors will be held at the church. Visitation will be held on Friday at the church where friends may call from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Terry’s memory to the Oil Belt Christian Service Camp. The McGriff Funeral Home in Kinmundy is entrusted with the care and arrangements.
