Donald Ray Barr 73 years old of Funkhouser near Effingham, Illinois went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ peacefully on early Sunday morning November 5, 2023, at 3:00 AM at the Lakeland Rehabilitation Center, Effingham, Illinois after a few years of a lingering illness.

A visitation will be held on Thursday November 9, 2023, for family and friends from 1:00 pm until 3:00 pm at the Kull Funeral Home, Altamont, Illinois. The VFW Post #7676 and the US Army Military Funeral Honors will provide Christian burial rites at the Arborcrest Memorial Park following the visitation.

Donald Ray Barr was born into the Christian family of Charles “Virgil” and Anna (Knierim) Barr on June 27, 1950, at the St. Anthony Hospital in Effingham, Illinois. He was baptized and confirmed his faith at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Effingham. He furthered his education at Effingham High School. He proudly served his country by serving in the US Army with induction on September 3, 1969. He served with the 1st US Army Infantry as 11 Bravo SP4 serving in the Vietnam campaign from February 4th to October 15th, 1970, Don received a Purple Heart as severely wounded in action. Don received his honorable discharge on May 7, 1971. After his rehabilitation, Don was employed as a heavy equipment operator, mechanic and an over the road truck driver. Don operated D & N Hobbies of Effingham for several years fulfilling his passion for miniature trains, automobiles, tractors, and the restoration of tractors. Don was a member of the VFW Post #7676, Altamont where he served as commander 1983-1984.

He is survived by his wife Nancy Barr of Newton, Illinois. 3-Sons: Jimmy Ray (wife, Alesia) Barr of Effingham Adam (wife, Bobijo) Barr of St. Elmo, Illinois Dustin Hill of Thomasville, Illinois 1-Daughter: Amanda Stout of Vandalia, Illinois 3-Brothers: David, Allen, and Charlie Barr 2-Sisters: Linda Barr of Lenoir, Tennessee Debbie Barr of Effingham, Illinois 1-Brother-in-law: Levi Boggs of Effingham, Illinois 9-Grandchildren, 4-Great Grandchildren.
