Helen Joyce Stockwell, age 85, of Wheeler, Illinois passed away at Friday, October 27, 2023 at HSHS St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital in Effingham, Illinois, surrounded by her loved ones.
Joyce was born on October 18, 1938 in Clay County, Illinois the daughter of Harold and Marguerite (O’Dell) Hostettler. She married Buddy Stockwell on June 3, 1956 at the Hoosier Prairie Baptist Church, Louisville, Illinois, and they shared 46 years of marriage before he preceded her in death on March 1, 2001. Joyce treasured the time spent with her loved ones, especially family dinners. A great cook, she enjoyed preparing meals for her family and her home was always filled with the delicious aromas. Joyce was also known for her skills in sewing, gardening, and canning. Her love, guidance, and support will be deeply missed but will continue to inspire and comfort her loved ones. She was a member of the Hoosier Prairie Baptist Church for 74 years.
Joyce is survived by her son Rodge (Ninfa) Stockwell of Clay City, Illinois; and her daughter Charlotte (Steve) Shedelbower of Wheeler, Illinois. She was the proud grandmother to 7 grandchildren; Ryan Stockwell, Megan (Charles) Terhune of Houston, Texas, Kaila (James) Kistner of Newton, Illinois, Amber (Greg) Volk of Noble, Illinois, Rayden Stockwell, Cailin Stockwell, and Ean Stockwell of Clay City, Illinois and 5 great-grandchildren. Her siblings, Marilyn Cox of Flora, Illinois and Gary Hostettler of Ingrahm, Illinois also survive.
Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, daughter Cheryl on May 8th, 1976, and brothers Ronnie Hostettler and Kenneth Hostettler.
Funeral services to celebrate Joyce’s life will be held at 10:30 am, Friday, November 3, 2023 at Hoosier Prairie Baptist Church with Pastor Kelly Carruthers and Norman Howell officiating. Burial will follow the service at the Bailey Cemetery, rural Jasper County, Illinois. Visitation will be held on Friday morning at the Hoosier Prairie Baptist Church where friends may call from 9:00 to 10:30 am. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Joyce’s memory to the Hoosier Prairie Baptist Church. The McGriff Funeral Home in Louisville, Illinois is entrusted with the care and arrangements.
