Darrell Laur (70) of Effingham

Darrell Laur, 70, of Effingham, IL, passed away on Monday, October 23, 2023 at Lakeland Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Effingham.

Graveside services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 29, 2023 at Woodlawn Cemetery in Effingham. Services are in the care of Johnson Funeral Home in Effingham, IL. Darrell was born on July 26, 1953 in Belleville, IL, the son of Rev. Lester B. and Isabelle (Crader) Laur. He married Velma Davis on July 26, 2003. She preceded him in death on September 19, 2023. Darrell graduated from Lawrenceville Township High School, Lawrenceville, IL, in 1971. He graduated from the University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana in 1975. He was employed for many years at Bethany Sales Company in Bethany, IL. Friends and family enjoyed many July 4th celebrations with fireworks provided by Darrell. He was an avid golfer and a member of the Hole-in-One Club. He loved to play poker and won many games playing with his niece and nephews when they were young. He enjoyed walking his dog and could often be seen walking Dobie down Maple Street. Darrell enjoyed watching U of I Basketball and was a St. Louis Cardinal fan. He enjoyed time with family and will be greatly missed.

Darrell is survived by his brother, Steve Laur (Jeanne) of Maryville, IL; niece, Jill Wright (JJ) of Altamont; nephews, Derek Laur (Maggie) of St. Louis, MO, and Matthew Laur (Carrie) of Pinckneyville, IL; 5 greatnieces, 4 great-nephews, and 2 great-great nieces; step-daughter, Lisa Goacher (Curtis) of Easton, MO; step-son, Jason Ligotino (Betsy) of San Diego, CA; step-daughter-in-law, Courtney Ligotino of Kettering, OH; 8 step-grandchildren; and one step-great-grandson.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Velma; and step-son, John Michael Ligotino.
