Roger Keith Chandler was born on Sunday, April 30, 1933 in rural Vandalia to Kenneth and Dora (McCaslin) Chandler. He married the love of his life, Jackie A. White, on June 2, 1962 in Vandalia. Together they raised six children and through hard work and a little tough love, they have created a legacy that will last throughout the generations to come. Roger was proud to be a United States Army veteran of the Korean War, a retired painter, and a member of Arm Prairie Christian Church, Brownstown. Roger was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Together with his wife, he taught his family valuable lessons of determination, hard work, and faithfulness. Roger instilled in each of his children strength, honesty, a love for God, and a love for others. He had a great love for conversations over coffee, horseback riding, and old-time hymns. A tough as nails cowboy through and through, with a respect for nature and livestock husbandry. With a contagious laugh, always offering the shirt off his back, and never meeting a stranger, he will always be remembered for his kindness towards others, and for the impression he made within the little Chandler house on the hill. Most importantly, Roger had a deep love for his friends and family, and cherished the times that were spent together.

Roger will be lovingly missed by his wife of over 61 years, Jackie of Brownstown; sons; Lucien (Ellie) Chandler of St. Elmo, Adam (Leanna) Chandler of Brownstown and Clay Chandler of Brownstown; daughters, Trina (Jeff) Cage of Vandalia and Sara (Troy) Frutiger of Clay City; 20 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren; canine companion Tuffy, equine companion Cowboy, and many, many farm animals.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Ella Gaynell Ward; son, Samuel (Sam) Chandler, and two grandsons, Lucas and Stewart Chandler.
