Ted J. Barnhart, age 65, of Newton formerly of New Lenox, Illinois passed away Thursday, October 19, 2023 at HSHS St. John’s Hospital, Springfield, Illinois.

A service to celebrate Ted’s life will be held in Newton at a later date. Memorial services will be held in New Lenox, Illinois with interment in the Elmhurst Cemetery, Joliet, Illinois. Cremation rites will be accorded. Crain Funeral Home, Newton is assisting the family with the arrangements.

Ted was born on October 22, 1957 in Olney, Illinois the son of Ted and Jean (Johnston) Barnhart. Ted graduated from ERHS with the Class of 1975. He served his country in the United States Navy from 1976-1979 aboard the USS Roark No. 1053. On February 20, 1982, Ted married Debbie Burgess. They shared thirty years together before her death on August 10, 2012. Ted was a retired truck driver. He drove for ABF where he was awarded the 1 million mile safe driver award. He later became the business manager for the Teamsters Union Local No. 510 in Mokena, Illinois. He retired from the union in 2021. Ted was a proud veteran, member of the American Legion and the Teamsters Union Local No. 510. In his free time, he enjoyed collecting US Navy and trucking memorabilia.

Ted will be loved and remembered by his son Davey Barnhart, wife Pam of Lockport, IL; daughter Amanda Richards, husband Tony of New Lenox, IL; grandchildren Derek Barnhart, wife Nicole of Hammond, IN, Ethan Barnhart of Lockport, IL, Connor Richards and Charlotte Richards both of New Lenox, IL; great-grandchild Dominic Barnhart of Hammond, IN; sister Sanna DeKovessey, husband Charles of Newton; sister-in-law Patti Barnhart of Westfield, IN; nephew Craig Barnhart, wife Jen and their children Miles and Kinsley all of Zionsville, IN; halfsister Jean Moran, husband Bill of Jackson, NJ; mother-in-law Betty McCure, husband Roger of New Lenox, IL and many nieces and nephews.

His parents, wife Debbie, brother, Tim Barnhart and sister, Barbara Mulvey preceded him in death.
