Dr. Valentino Menis (81) of Shelbyville

Dr. Valentino Menis, 81, of Shelbyville, passed away at 4:53 a.m. Monday, October 16, in his residence.

A memorial mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 25, 2023, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Shelbyville, with Father Pawel Augustyniak as celebrant.  Following the mass, military rites will be conducted by the Shelby County Honor Guard at Glenwood Cemetery, Blyman Addition, Shelbyville.  Memorials may be given to Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.  Arrangements are by Howe & Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville, IL.

Dr. Valentino was born on December 31, 1941 in Maino, Italy, the only child of Romano and Alma (Floreani) Menis.  He married Roberta Rose Stoller in August of 1965.  Dr. Valentino graduated from Loyola University School of Medicine in 1966 and served his internship at Cook County Hospital in Chicago, where he first noticed the need for crisis management medicine.  He was drafted into the United States Army in 1967 and was stationed at Pleiku Air Base in Vietnam.  He entered the military as a flight surgeon where he trained in helicopter maneuvering and transporting wounded soldiers, as well as implementing better forms of radio communications for faster medical response times.  He was later stationed in Heidelberg, Germany for nearly two years before being stationed in Fort Knox, KY.  Dr. Valentino served as the director of emergency medical services at Central DuPage Hospital, Winfield, IL and also served as a physician for the Motherhouse of the Wheaton Franciscan Sisters, located at the Marianjoy complex in Wheaton, IL.  He later worked as an Emergency Room Physician at St. Anthony Hospital in Effingham, IL and Good Shepherd Hospital in Shelbyville, IL.

Dr. Valentino is survived by his wife, Roberta; and son, Matthew J. Menis of Mode, IL.

He was preceded in death by his father, Romano Menis; and mother, Alma Chiesa.
