John H. Loy (76) of Effingham

John H. Loy, 76, of Effingham, IL, passed away on Saturday, September 30, 2023 at Casa Azul Nursing and Rehabilitation in Katy, TX.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 14, 2023 at Johnson Funeral Home in Effingham. Burial will be in Oak Ridge Cemetery in Effingham. Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. prior to the service on Saturday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to El Paso Museum of Archeology. John was born on January 4, 1947, in Effingham, IL, the son of Dale and Virginia (Sowers) Loy. He married Linda Weinland on August 31, 1969. John retired as a Sergeant from the El Paso Police Department after serving for 27 years. He enjoyed gardening, hunting, and fishing, along with history and archeology. He was an active member of the El Paso Archeology Society while he lived in El Paso. He also was interested in genealogy and the Loy family history.

John is survived by his wife, Linda of Katy, TX; children, Melissa Loy of Houston, TX, and Travis (Jennifer) Loy of Austin, TX; grandchildren; Noah Loy and Jude Loy, along with his sisters, Ardienne Thompson of Magnolia, TX, and Carol Roberson of Champaign, IL.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Dale and Virginia Sowers Loy.
