Jim was a 1962 graduate of Effingham High School. He worked on the family farm as a kid and upon graduating worked on oil rigs with his brother. Later on he started working in the flooring business. Eventually he started Jim Ready Floor Covering Service which he owned and operated for over 40 years and was one of the best around. He loved raising livestock and had great success producing 4H show pigs with many champions on the county and state level. Once his kids and grand kids were out of 4H he turned to raising Low Line Angus cattle. He also raised quail and pheasants. Jim had a strong work ethic, and often baled and racked hay by himself. He was always willing to help a neighbor or anyone in need but was always reluctant to ask for help himself. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed deer hunting, fishing, horseback riding, and his many antique John Deere tractors. In his younger years he enjoyed horse racing, racing cars, and water skiing. Jim could fix about anything and some would say, “well that’s Jimmy rigged” to which he would reply “but by golly it works”! He was a simple man who loved his family deeply. His grand kids were very special to him as he always loved giving them a hard time.
