Verena L. Brumleve, 91, passed away Tuesday, October 3, 2023 at her home in Teutopolis surrounded by family.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, October 10, 2023 at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Teutopolis with burial in St. Francis Cemetery.  A CCW Rosary will be held at 3:45 p.m. with visitation to follow from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Monday at the church, in the St. Clare Hall.  Memorials may be made to the donor’s choice.

Verena was born November 16, 1931 in Jasper County, the daughter of Bernard H. and Frances (Koestner) Beckman.  She married George F. Brumleve on May 12, 1956, and he preceded her in death in 2012.

Verena was a devoted wife and loving mother who was known for always putting others before herself.  She was a strong, hardworking woman who raised four kids, worked with her husband in their various businesses, as well as being a caregiver for many years.  Verena had many artistic talents.  She enjoyed tending her flowers, gardening, and crocheting, particularly afghans, and donated many afghans for church picnics.  She, also, had a great love for dogs, hummingbirds, and other animals.  Verena will be greatly missed.

Verena is survived by her three sons, Dennis, Greg, and Ted (Karlene), all of Teutopolis; one daughter, Margaret (Kevin) McCullough of Gilbertsville, KY.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; infant son, Donald; brothers, Elmer and Jerome “Bud” Beckman; sisters, Blanche Probst and Ethel Brumleve.

The Brumleve family would like to say “thank you” to hospice nurse, Jamie; Susan at Guardian Angel Adult Daycare; and other family and friends who in any way helped to care for Verena over the last several years of her life.  You are all appreciated very much!
