Lloyd W. Halbrook, Sr., 84, of Reno, Nevada, passed away peacefully on September 18th, 2023 at the Northern Nevada State Veterans Home. He was draped in the United States flag and received a Walk of Honor attended by dozens of fellow veterans, family members, and friends.

Lloyd Sr. was born on September 12, 1939 in rural Shelbyville, Illinois. After attending Shelbyville High School, Class of 1957, he served 20 years in the United States Air Force where he trained pilots for high altitude flights and created a patented restraint device used by NASA. In 1968, while stationed in Okinawa, Japan, Lloyd married Masako Murayama and they shared two children. Lloyd retired from the military in 1977 and retired to Xenia, Illinois to fulfill his dream of farming near his childhood home. He enjoyed fishing, woodworking, and country dancing.

He is survived by his daughter, Sanae Dixon of Reno, Nevada; son, Lloyd Halbrook Jr. of West Sacramento, California; and adult grandchildren, Emily and Naomi. He is also survived by his siblings, Earl, Harold, Norma, Judy, and Tom; and foster sister, Jeanne.

Lloyd Sr. was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Masako; mother, Viola Fern Bray; foster parents, Bernie and Ione Wheeler; and brother, Richard.

The family plans a Celebration of Life service in Westervelt, Illinois in the Spring of 2024 and will release further details closer to that date. Arrangements are by Howe & Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville, IL. Send condolences by clicking here
