Alfred O. "Alfie" Will (78) of Montrose

Alfred O. “Alfie” Will, 78 of Montrose, passed away Monday, September 11, 2023 at HSHS St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital in Effingham.  While he was able to survive the 10% chance of beating Leukemia, his body was not strong enough to beat the pneumonia that followed.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, September 15, 2023 at the Toledo Christian Church. Burial will take place in St. Rose Cemetery, Montrose, with military graveside rites. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Thursday at the church. Alfie was born July 2, 1945 in Cumberland County, the son of Adolph and Florence (Heuerman) Will. He served with the United States Army from 1965 to 1967, serving in Panama as a clerk typist, grading GED tests. He married Dolores Westendorf on April 27, 1968 at St. Aloysius Catholic Church, Bishop Creek.

Alfie enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, as well as deer and mushroom hunting and enjoying a few Old Mil Lights with friends and family. He was a member of the Plainfield Christian Church in Rose Hill, Toledo American Legion, NRA, the Jasper County Farm Bureau, and was a former volunteer fireman in Montrose.  Alfie retired from being a full-time farmer this last spring.

Alfie is survived by his wife, Dolores of Montrose; children, Greg (Theresa) Will of Sullivan, Cheryl (Joe) Flood of Montrose, Rodney (Keri) Will of Teutopolis, Tom (Sarah) Will of Charleston, Brad (Kaedy) Will of Hidalgo, Janene (Bill) Dittamore of Montrose; grandchildren, Ally Will, Kiley Will, Taylor (Neil) Bierman, Katie (Wesly) Koester, Makenzie (Izaya Smith) Flood, Brayden Will, Zach Will, Josh Will, Kyson Will, Tristan Will, London Will, Gracie Dittamore, Paige Dittamore, Alysa Dittamore; step-grandchildren, Angela Righter, Jason Perry, Natalie Branson; five great-grandchildren; nine step-great-grandchildren; brothers, Roger (Ruth) Will, Maurice Will, Adolph “Sonny” (Sharon) Will, Curt (Tracy) Will; sisters, Arlene “Toots” (Dan) Flood, Alice (John) Hendrix, Rita Wendt, and Annette (Duane) Niemerg.

Alfie was preceded in death by his parents; daughter-in-law, Brandy Will; sister, Vera (Jim) Kroeger; sister, Mardel (Don) Buenker; sister-in-law, Anita Will; brother-in-law, Ralph Wendt; grandchildren, Lauren, Will, and Ralee Dittamore.

A special thank you to Dr. Dy and the nurses at the Crossroads Cancer Center, Dr. Lei, Kirk Miller, and the ICU nurses who took such wonderful care of Alfie during his illness.
