Janet was born on September 30, 1957, in Hammond, Indiana, the daughter of Herman and Marcella (Fear) Whalen. She was united in marriage to Chris S. Yocum on September 28, 1985, at Hazel Dell, Illinois. Janet graduated from Newton Community High School with the Class of 1975. She was a proud member of Mullen Baptist Church, a familiar face in Cumberland County from her years at the First Neighbor Bank, the Cumberland County Courthouse, Scott’s Building Center, and most recently the Bumble Bee Boutique. Janet loved spending time with her grandchildren, going on walks, attending church functions, spending quiet evenings with Chris, watching the hummingbirds on the patio, and making flower arrangements with Jenni.
Janet is survived by her loving devoted husband Chris Yocum; mother, Marcella Whalen of Newton, Illinois; sister Joyce (Fred) Correll of Dundas, Illinois; daughter Jenni (Jedidiah) Adam of Jewett, Illinois; and their children Colten, Indee, and Everett; daughter Kara Yocum of Toledo, Illinois; and her son, Lynn Clough; as well as her “bonus daughter” and friend, Brandy Wolke of Jewett, Illinois. She is also survived by Mother-in-law Pauline Yocum of Jewett, Illinois, several cousins, nieces, nephews, and extended family that she loved dearly.
Janet was preceded in death by her father, son Thomas Yocum, grandsons, Alton Jones and Emery F. Adam, and her brother, Jeff “Jake” Whalen, and her father-in-law Don Yocum.
