Gary "Spike" Spiker (69) of Effingham

Gary “Spike” Spiker, 69, of Effingham, IL, passed away on Saturday, September 2, 2023 at HSHS St. John’s Hospital in Springfield, IL.

A celebration of life will begin at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, September 8, 2023, at the Effingham Elks Lodge with an Elks memorial service at 7:00 p.m. Services are open to the public, and all are welcome to attend. Gary was born on August 15, 1954, in Frostburg, MD, the son of Ellis and Mildred (Green) Spiker. He attended Beall High School in Frostburg and enjoyed playing soccer. After graduating, he served his country in the United States Army. He was a member of the Effingham American Legion Post 120 and the Effingham Elks Lodge #1016 where he truly enjoyed the company of his friends. Gary was a humble man and a great friend. He was also an avid Chicago Cubs fan.

Gary is survived by his daughter, Katrina Teubert of Alva, OK; grandchildren, Kandice Whitney of Alva, OK, Kaitlan Thornton of Enid, OK, and Bryana Teubert of Enid, OK; great-grandchildren, Serenity, Ember, Cory, Allie, Jaelynn, Kenzlie, and Saylor; and siblings, Shirley (Robert) Collins of Cumberland, MD, Karen (Kenny Swanger) Spiker of Cumberland, MD; and Milburn (Fran) Spiker of Falling Water, WV.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and siblings, Joseph Spiker, David Spiker, and Dorothy Schurg, all of Maryland.
