Clarence W. "Bill" Hampton (86) of Shelbyville

Clarence W. “Bill” Hampton, 86, of Shelbyville, IL, passed away at 12:24 p.m. Saturday, September 2, 2023 in HSHS St. John’s Hospital, Springfield, IL.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 6, 2023 in Howe & Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville, IL, with Gary Crowder officiating. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery, Shelbyville, IL. Memorials may be given to the American Cancer Society, American Diabetes Association, or the American Heart Association.

Bill was born on January 13, 1937 in Shelbyville, IL, the son of Herschel H. and Mary M. Raugellis Hampton. Bill attended school at Rose Center, Sandy Hill, and Westervelt before graduating from Shelbyville High School in the Class of 1954. He married Alice M. Gruen on July 12, 1959. Bill then served in the U.S. Army from 1960-1962. He was a farmer, truck driver and owner of Hampton Trucking in Shelbyville, IL. Bill was a member of Owner Operator Independent Drivers Association, AMVETS, and Roy Vanderpool American Legion Post #81 and VFW Post #4829 both in Shelbyville.

He is survived by his wife, Alice; son, Jim Hampton and wife Lori of Shelbyville, IL; daughter, Karen Hampton and partner Ben Stuparits of Webster Groves, MO.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Jerry “Peanut” Hampton.
