Lawrence J. “Larry” Niemerg, 76, of Teutopolis, IL, passed away on Tuesday, August 29, 2023 at HSHS St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital in Effingham surrounded by his family.

A memorial mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 6, 2023 at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Effingham. Burial will be in St. Anthony Cemetery in Effingham with military rites. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with a 6:30 p.m. rosary on Tuesday at Johnson Funeral Home in Effingham. Larry was born on October 10, 1946, in Springfield, IL, the son of Alphons and Irene (Doedtman) Niemerg. He married Marsha Manuel on August 9, 1975 at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church. Larry graduated from St. Anthony High School in 1964. Larry entered the United States Air Force in 1966. He served in Vietnam from 1968 to 1969 and was stationed at Tan Son Nhut Air Force Base. Larry was honorably discharged in 1970. After the service, Larry graduated from Eastern Illinois University, earning a degree in finance. For many years he worked for ADM as a sales manager. After retirement, Larry enjoyed traveling with his wife Marsha. He was a man of faith and valued time spent with family and friends. His grandchildren had a special place in his heart. Larry was a member of St. Anthony Church and a 3rd degree member of the Effingham Knights of Columbus. He also was an avid fan of the Chicago Cubs and Dallas Cowboys, and enjoyed the game of golf with his kids and friends.

Larry is survived by his wife, Marsha Niemerg of Teutopolis; children, Nate (Jamie) Niemerg of Teutopolis, Nick (Carissa) Niemerg of Effingham, and Noelle (Neil) Zerrusen of Teutopolis; grandchildren, Madelyn, Paige, Lucas, Mollie, Raegan, and Emery; sister, JoAnn (Raymond) Jeffreys of Naperville, IL; and niece, Karen (James) Bridges of Aurora, IL.

He was preceded in death by his parents; mother-in-law, Mary Manuel; and many aunts and uncles.
