Rosanna R. Schallert (91) of Effingham

Rosanna R. Schallert, 91, of Effingham, IL, passed away on Sunday, August 27, 2023 at the family lake house on Lake Sara in Effingham.

A memorial mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, September 5, 2023 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Effingham and will be followed by interment at St. Anthony Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with a 6:30 p.m. rosary on Monday, September 4, 2023 at Johnson Funeral Home in Effingham. Rosanna was born on March 31, 1932 in Cape Girardeau, MO, the daughter of August and Emma (Giffin) Boos. She married Bernard J. Schallert on January 23, 1951, in Cape Girardeau, MO. After 66 years of marriage, he preceded her in death on August 15, 2017. Rosanna and Bernard loved traveling, and together they visited every continent but Antarctica. Both were also active members at Sacred Heart Church for many years. Rosanna worked in several retail jobs over the years, including more than two decades at Schallert Sewing Center. She also enjoyed crafts, puzzles, nature watching, and time with her family.

Rosanna is survived by four of her children: Anthony (Melinda Means) Schallert, Steven (Kathy) Schallert, Bernard “Benny” (Mari Grupe) Schallert Jr., and Katie (James) Hetrick; 11 grandchildren; and six greatgrandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bernard; daughter, Sue Ann Whitlock; two sisters, Geraldine “Jeri” Huffman and Virginia Eftink; and two brothers, Lawrence and Raymond Boos.
