Ron was born February 12, 1938 in Teutopolis, the son of Norbert and Mary “Millie” (Schniederjan) Esker. He served in the United States Army from 1962-1964. Ron was united in marriage to Pam LeBel on January 31, 1970 at St. Joseph Church in Island Grove. Aside from his family, Ron’s greatest joys were mushroom and turkey hunting, cutting wood, tending to his garden, watching his grandkids play sports and fishing with his grandsons. He also enjoyed playing cards with friends, eating at Kountry Kitchen, and sharing a beer or two at the KC Hall. Ron worked hard his entire life to provide for his family, working as a lineman for CIPS for over 30 years. He never knew a stranger, and always appreciated a good prank. Those who knew him saw past his hard exterior to see the kindhearted loving man he truly was. Ron was a lifetime member of the Teutopolis American Legion Post 924 and Teutopolis Knights of Columbus, and a longtime member of NWTF.
Ron is survived by his wife, Pam of Teutopolis; children, Todd (Katie) of Mahomet, Christine (Nick) Schuette of Effingham, Beth (Shawn) Lewis of Teutopolis, and Ted (Adri) of Colorado Springs; grandchildren, Sydney and Ethan Esker, Madie Smith, Max Schuette, Kylie, Chloe, and William Lewis; siblings, Carolyn Carmichael, Howard (Connie) Esker, Richard (Jeanette) Esker, JoEllen (Mick) Bretz, Paul (Emma) Esker, Cindy Murdock, Tony (Janet) Esker, and Fred (Kathy) Esker; brothers-in-law, Gerald “Smokie” Burford and George Buening.
He was preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Lucas John Schuette; sisters, Barbara Burford and Dorothy Buening.
Ron’s family would like to extend a special thank you to all of the wonderful caregivers we had through SPS, especially Heather Stengel and April Evetts.
