He graduated from Teutopolis High School in 1965. He enlisted in the United States Navy right out of high school and worked as a hydraulic mechanic. Herman had many stories about riding in the California desert hunting bullfrogs and jackrabbits in a Corvair with the top chopped off. Herman started Wesselman Roofing in 1969 and ran the business until his sons took over. He was very proud that all 4 sons followed in his line of work. Herman enjoyed playing pool and frequenting The Orchard Inn in younger years. He had a love of old cars, snowmobiles, motorcycles, and watching old Westerns on repeat. His favorite method of transportation was his riding lawnmower, and he enjoyed giving his grandkids rides around the yard and sharing his ice cream and chocolate with them.
