Janice Kay Burnell, age 81, of Noble, Illinois, passed away at 11:10 AM – Monday, August 21, 2023.

A graveside service will be held at 10:00AM - Saturday, August 26, 2023, at the Honey Cemetery in Bogota, Illinois.  In loving memory of Kay, memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Bogota, Illinois or to the Honey Cemetery. Arrangements are under the care of the Meyer Funeral Home in Newton, Illinois

Kay was born on June 25, 1942, in Olney, Illinois, the daughter of Raymond and Avenelle (Crouse) Zimmerman. She married Jerry Lynn Burnell on December 12, 1963, at the Bogota Baptist Church and he preceded her in death on May 26, 2018.

Kay attended Newton Community High School, graduating with the class of 1960.  She received her master’s degree in elementary education by attending Bob Jones University and Eastern Illinois University.  She loved teaching, and taught for over 30 years, leaving a lasting impression on many.  Kay was a member of the First Baptist Church in Bogota, Illinois where she played piano for several years. She loved traveling, working in her yard, gardening, and tending flowers.  She enjoyed her time with friends playing canasta or as part of the ABC-darians with her teaching friends.

Kay is survived by:

Daughters- Jana (Jim) Worrell of Wynoose, Illinois and Jennifer Brown of DeSoto, Illinois

Grandchildren- Lily Brown of DeSoto, Illinois; Pandora Worrell (Drew Nestleroad) of Noble, Illinois; Hunter Miller of Noble, Illinois and Austin Worrell of Noble, Illinois.

Great-grandsons- Zeppelin Miller of Noble, Illinois and Atreus Nestleroad to be born October 2023

Brother- Danny (Becky) Zimmerman of Lebanon, Illinois

Nieces- Melonie (David) Jackson of Mokena, Illinois, Ruth (Jeremy) Kampwerth of O’Fallon, Illinois, and Claire (David) Boltz of Westford, Massachusetts.  

Kay was preceded in death by her parents, and her husband.
