Orvil Duane "Beaver" Hassebrock, 71, of Kinmundy passed away peacefully at 12:41 pm, Sunday, August 20, 2023 at his home in rural Kinmundy with his loving family by his side.
Duane was born on May 5, 1952 in Kinmundy, Illinois the son of Earl and Clarabelle (Merritt) Hassebrock. He married Evelyn Hitzeman on November 25, 1978 in Akron, Iowa, and they shared 45 years of marriage together. Duane led a remarkable life filled with hard work, dedication, and a passion for the oil fields. He made his mark in the industry as a skilled Union pipefitter/welder and fabricator. His expertise led him to establish a few of his own businesses where he was self-employed for over 30 years, and where he poured his heart and soul into serving others. Beyond his industrious career, Duane reveled in the joy of country living. His farm was his sanctuary—a place where he nurtured horses and cattle with unwavering love and care. He spent most of his life training and riding horses. He started from the ground up and built a beautiful family and Ranch over 40 years ago with his wife Evelyn. He enjoyed a campfire by the pond and a cup of coffee on the front porch in the morning watching his horses. The simple sounds of nature and the warmth of working with his hands brought him immeasurable happiness. Duane had an adventurous spirit but chose to savor the beauty of home rather than explore distant lands. His heart was always rooted in the tranquility of his farm and family. Riding on his personally built wagon pulled by a team of horses he raised and trained was one of Duane's greatest pleasures. He has left so many beautiful moments with us all on the farm riding horses, laughing, and ended many days on the front porch. His other greatest pleasure was becoming a grandfather, he loved all of his grandchildren and never left them without a hug. He had all of them on horses the minute they were sitting up. He left his love for horses to them. His grandchildren brought him the biggest smile each day as his arms were always open. He was pretty onery and loved to aggravate everyone. He loved to tell a good joke! He never hesitated to talk with a stranger or help someone in need. He had the biggest heart.
