Shirley J. Miller (83) of Effingham

Shirley J. Miller, 83, of Effingham, IL, passed away on Saturday, August 19, 2023 at her daughter’s home in Vandalia, IL.

A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 24, 2023 at Johnson Funeral Home in Effingham. Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Thursday prior to service at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to HSHS Hospice Southern Illinois. Shirley was born on April 8, 1940, in Vigo County, IN, the daughter of Lewis and Dolly Marie (Grayless) Branson. She married Donald D. Miller on January 16, 1958. Shirley enjoyed family, friends, church, and working with Effingham Unit 40 Transportation until retirement. She loved cruising in the car and long walks holding hands with Don. Her favorite place was Gulf Shores, AL, where she spent her winter months sunbathing, dolphin watching, walking on the beach and a good game of Hand & Foot where an occasional “Woo Hoo” would be heard when the girls were winning.

Shirley is survived by her husband, Donald Miller; children, Donnie Miller (Tinley), Mike Miller (Denise), Rick Miller (Lisa), and Kari Caswell (Rodney); grandchildren, Sara, Kimberly (Mike), Aaron (Myca), Jay, Cody, Emily, Lindsey (Bryce), Jacob, Brayden (Elissa), Caleb, and Jesse (Travis); great-grandchildren, Zoe, Cody, Addi, Whitlea, Zaylea, Paisley, Auna, Zavier, Alexa, Luke, Jackson, Joshua, Michael, Weston, Aerington, Bexley, and Killian; great-great-granddaughter, Raya; and brother, Lewis “Junior” Branson.

She was preceded in death by her father, Lewis; mother, Dolly; step-father, Fred Williams; and brother Clyde all from the Brazil, Indiana area.
