Larry Ames (83) of West Liberty

Lawrence D. “Larry” Ames, 83, of West Liberty, Illinois passed away at 2:48 pm, Saturday, August 12, 2023 at his home.

It was Larry’s wishes for cremation and no services will be held at this time. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Larry’s memory to the Alzheimer’s Association. The McGriff Funeral Home in Louisville is assisting the family with the arrangements. Online condolences may be left by clicking here.

Larry was born April 5, 1940 in Portland, MI the son of Bud and Elizabeth (Baker) Ames. He married Barbara Wojciechowski on August 4, 1973 in New Jersey and they shared 49 years of marriage before she preceded him in death  July 23, 2023. Larry had worked many different jobs over the years with some including, a truck driver and working as a greeter at Wal-Mart. Larry loved spending time with his family and at one time he owned and operated a ranch in Bible Grove named Ames Quarter Horse Ranch, he loved to horseback ride, and watching westerns on TV. He was a member of the St. Stephens Catholic Church in Flora.

Larry is survived by his daughter, Audra (Michael) Osborn of West Liberty; three grandchildren, Brendan Apke of Effingham, Trevor Apke of Bible Grove and Tearia Goldstein of Effingham; two great-grandchildren, Ariella and Theodore Goldstein; his mother, Elizabeth Artin of Michigan; siblings, Douglas (Conni) Artin of Arizona, Georgia (Roy) DeFrain of Ohio, John (Cheryl) Kale of Chicago, Elizabeth (Leroy) Paul of Michigan, Darlene (Joe, Sr.) Digiovanni of Michigan, Denise (Jason) Thompson of Tennessee, Gilbert (Orma) Ames of Michigan, Steve (Sue) Ames of Bible Grove, Irl Ames of Kentucky, Vera Schrimcher of Arizona and sister-in-law: Deia Ames of Mt. Carmel. 

Larry was preceded in death by his father; brother, Richard Ames and sister, Peggy Ames.
