Ellen Marie Borntreger (89) of St. Elmo

Ellen Marie Borntreger, age 89, of St. Elmo, Illinois passed away at 3:07 a.m. Wednesday, July 26, 2023 at Glenwood Assistant Living in Effingham.
Funeral service will be at 4:00 p.m. Saturday, July 29, 2023 at St. Elmo Christian Church with a 3-hour visitation prior to the service. Tom Fedrigon will be officiating. Burial will take place at Maplewood Cemetery in St. Elmo. Memorials may go to the Diabetes Association, American Heart Association or the donor’s choice. Ellen was born on March 12, 1934 in Garrett, Illinois, the daughter of Richard and Gertrude (Kurse) Suhl. She married Alvin “Al” F. Borntreger on March 5, 1954 in Garrett, Illinois. Starting in 1977, Ellen drove a school bus for St. Elmo school district for 32 years. She also worked at the Family Res-cue in St. Elmo as a cook and caterer. Ellen loved the Lord, life, her family and friends. She enjoyed traveling to Branson, Missouri, crafting, baking and cooking for others. Ellen had a special love for her azalea bushes, pecan trees and being a service to others.
She is survived by her sons, Mark Borntreger (wife Brenda) of Redmon and Scott Borntreger (wife Michelle) of Auburn; grandchildren, Alan Borntreger (wife Jamie) of Redmon, Dr. Kevin Borntreger (wife Marissa) of Dieterich, Leah Borntreger and Erin Borntreger of Auburn; great-grandchildren, Taran and Bre-Ann of Redmon and Jase, Eli, Conor, and Levi of Dieterich.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Richard and Gertrude Suhl; husband, Al Borntreger; one daughter in infancy, Betty Jean Borntreger; siblings, Phyllis Jean Hughes, Juanita Patterson, Beulah Lacey, Evelyn Kelsheimer, Warren Suhl, Glenn Suhl, and two in infancy.
