Joy D. Wood (81) of Bible Grove

Joy D. Wood, 81, of Bible Grove passed away at 5:11 pm, Sunday, July 16, 2023 at the Lakeland Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Effingham, Illinois with her loving son at her side.
Joy was born on September 5, 1941 in Clay County, Illinois the daughter of Vernon and Carrie (Anderson) Payne. She married John M. Wood on March 29, 1969 at the Sailor Springs Christian Church and they shared 20 years of marriage before he preceded her in death on November 15, 1989. In her professional life, Joy made a significant impact through her dedicated work for the ASCS office in Louisville for many years. She also found joy in being a homemaker and took pride in caring for her family. Later in her career, she worked for the Country Insurance Agency in Louisville. Joy's warm and caring nature extended beyond her professional life. Known for her selflessness and compassion, Joy always put others before herself. Her loving nature was evident through her hobbies and interests. She loved to cook delicious meals for her loved ones and took pleasure in their enjoyment. Joy was an avid fan of the television series Gunsmoke and cherished watching every episode without fail. She found solace and joy in listening to old gospel music and country western songs.
However, Joy's ultimate source of happiness was her family. She adored spending time with her son: Andy (Brandi) Wood of Buchanan, TN, and cherished every moment with him and Brandi. Her grandchildren Quinton (Darrian) Wood of Louisville and Dalton Wood of Louisville, held a special place in her heart, and she treasured their presence in her life. Joy was also blessed with one great-grandchild: Johnathon Wood. She is also survived by many cousins and friends.
Joy is preceded in death by her parents and sister Marjorie Payne.
Funeral services to celebrate Joy's life will be held at 10:00 am Thursday, July 20, 2023 at the McGriff Funeral Home in Louisville with Ron Payne officiating. Burial will follow at the Shouse Chapel Cemetery, Bible Grove. Visitation will be held on Wednesday evening at the funeral home where friends may call from 4:00 to 6:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Joy's memory to the Pinehaven Christian Children's Ranch and School or Oil Belt Christian Service Camp, and those will be accepted through the funeral home.
