Janice Sue Johnston (68) of Shelbyville

Janice Sue Johnston, 68, of Shelbyville, IL, passed to her heavenly home at 11:20 p.m. Wednesday, June 28, 2023 in HSHS St. John’s Hospital, Springfield, IL.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, July 3, 2023 at Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville, IL with Rev. Nathan Woolery officiating. Visitation will be from Noon-2:00 p.m. Monday in the funeral home. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery, Shelbyville, IL. Memorials may be given to Saving Orphaned Animals in Shelbyville or St. John’s School of Nursing in Springfield.

Janice was born on May 1, 1955 in Shelbyville, IL, the daughter of Jesse I. and Ruth (Cress) Reed. She graduated from Shelbyville High School in the Class of 1973 and later completed her nursing degree from Decatur Memorial Hospital Nursing School in 1976. Janice worked as an RN at Shelby Memorial Hospital. While raising her family, she worked for Brix Veterinary Clinic in Shelbyville as a vet tech. Janice retired in 2017 from Blue Cross/Blue Shield after 23 years, where she was a medical review analyst. She enjoyed “digging in the dirt” in her garden full of vegetables, where she would often share the bountiful harvest with others. She also enjoyed baking her famous Angel Food cakes that were a hit at any party. Janice was a devoted mother and especially proud grandmother.

She is survived by her three sons, Steven Johnston and wife Kristin of Shelbyville, IL, Aaron Johnston and wife Christy of Springfield, IL and Eric Johnston and wife Megan of Waukee, IA; brother, Darrell Cress and wife Doris of Effingham, IL; sister, Denise Reed of Shelbyville, IL; and companion, Earl Orsborn of Shelbyville, IL. She was the proud grandma of Dale Johnston, Kaylynne Johnston, Madeline Sue Johnston, Kate Johnston, Lexi Johnston, Beckham Johnston and Cohen Johnston.

She was preceded in death by her parents.
