Norma Jean Courtright, 97, of Neoga, Illinois, formerly from Stewardson, Illinois, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Wednesday, June 28 at Heartland Senior Living, LLC in Neoga.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Thursday, July 6, 2023 at Bauer Funeral Home in Effingham with burial in Stewardson Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at the funeral home on Thursday. Services and burial will be held at the same time for Norma's son, Jack Willam Courtright, who passed away on June 11 in St. Petersburg, Florida after a lengthy illness.

Norma was born on January 13, 1926 in Maumee, Ohio, the first child of Lowman and Beatrice Painter. She married Jack Courtright on April 1, 1944 and he preceded her in death on April 8, 1994.

Norma was a member of the Methodist Church in Stewardson and worked at General Electric in Mattoon and Loretta's Cafe in Stewardson.

She never met a stranger and liked to visit with family and friends who enjoyed her funny stories and quick wit.

Norma is survived by her daughter, Brenda Bueker of Sigel; nine grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren, and 23 great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Nadine Steagall of Effingham; brother, Larry Painter of Stewardson, and many nieces and nephews.

Norma was preceded in death by her parents, husband; sons Lowman (Lonnie) Courtright and Jack Courtright, sister, Naomi Joan Baker, son-in-law, Gerald Bueker, sister-in-law, Loretta Painter, and brothers-in-law: Doyle Baker, Scott Steagal, and great-grandson, James Bueker.
