Michael Frank Field, 76, of Altamont, Illinois, passed away on Friday, June 16, 2023 at HSHS St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital in Effingham, Illinois.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 21, 2023 at Johnson Funeral Home in Effingham, Illinois. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 22, 2023 at Johnson Funeral Home in Effingham. Burial will be in Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis, MO at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, June 23, 2023. Memorials may be made in Mike’s name to The National Rifle Association. Michael was born on October 20, 1946, in Effingham, Illinois, the second son of Sidney Frank and Irma Annamarie (Gobel) Field. Mike married Sharon Douthit on April 8, 1967. Mike served as an Aviation Electronics Technician in the United States Navy from 1964-1968, where he enjoyed his position as part of the air crew in the P2-V “Neptune” of “The Batmen” of VP-24. After departing the Navy, Mike returned to Illinois where he was employed with Illinois Bell as a Transmission Technician for 33 years. Mike was a graduate of Reisch Auction School and became the owner of Field Auction Services in 1971. Mike sold many farm sales throughout Illinois and was often called upon for FFA and high school fundraising auctions. Mike raised his family in Champaign and Macon counties, returning to Effingham County in retirement. Mike was an avid hunter and supporter of second amendment rights. His love of education and instruction flowed into all aspects of his life, and he led many hunter safety courses through the NRA.

Mike is survived by his wife, Sharon Field; daughters, Wendy Pauline Lawson (Aaron) and Sherri Denise Field Gard, DVM (Clayton); grandchildren, Bethanny, Jerad, Macy, Aubrey, Halle and Kinsley; brothers, Danny Field, Paul Field, and Dink Field; and many nieces and nephews.

Mike was preceded in death by his parents, Sydney and Irma Field.
