Kristi J. (Mason) Myers (47) of Des Moines, formerly of Altamont

Kristi J. (Mason) Myers, age 47, of Des Moines, Iowa, formerly of Altamont, Illinois, passed away Sunday, June 4, at her home with her family at her side.

A memorial service for Kristi will be held Saturday, July 1, 2023 from 10 a.m. to noon at the chapel of Lutheran Care Center in Altamont, Illinois.

Kristi was born on Saturday, May 8, 1976 at St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital in Effingham Illinois to Glen and Nancy (Roedl) Mason.  She married Dan Myers on June 14th 2003 in the chapel of the University of Iowa inIowa City.  Kristi and Dan were blessed with one daughter Audrey Vanessa.

She attended elementary school and high school in Altamont, graduating valedictorian of the class of 1994. She graduated from Illinois Wesleyan University in 1998 with a BA in English (with a Secondary Education Certification).

She completed her MA in English Literature from Iowa State in 2011.  She taught at Gibson City IL middle school, Urbandale High School, DMACC Urban Campus-Des Moines, Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa, and finally at Central Academy in Des Moines teaching AP English. Teaching was not a job-it was what she loved to do.

Kristi is survived by her husband Dan, daughter Audrey of Des Moines, Iowa, parents of Altamont IL, brother Aaron (Kami) Mason of Effingham, IL and their children Kaleigh, Evan, and Julia Mason, father and mother-in-law Dan and Sally Myers of Altoona, Iowa, sister-in-law Jackie (Darin) Stowell of Kansas City, Kansas and their children Maddie, Olivia, and Max and several aunts uncles and cousins and many many friends.

Kristi fought a courageous battle with cancer for 30 years and amazed everyone with her strength and endurance.  We cannot count the number of lives she has touched.
